Hi, I’m Markita Gordon, the owner and baker behind Sweetness By the Pound! 💙

My love for baking began long before Sweetness By the Pound ever existed. It started with my grandmother, who was always baking cakes. Some of my fondest memories are connected to the homemade desserts she made and the love that went into preparing them. As she aged, I wanted to find a way to continue that tradition—to keep homemade baked goods and the memories they create alive while honoring her legacy.

Before becoming a baker, I was an educator. I spent years doing work that I truly loved and pouring into others. Life eventually took an unexpected turn when I became ill and had to step away from education. During that season, I discovered another passion that brought me comfort, creativity, and a sense of peace: baking.

What started as something I did because I loved it slowly became something much deeper. Baking became therapeutic for me. It gave me something to look forward to, allowed me to be creative, and brought me a tremendous amount of peace during a difficult season of my life. Eventually, that passion grew into Sweetness By the Pound.

Today, Sweetness By the Pound is a home-based baking business specializing in homemade mini loaf pound cakes and sweet treats. I love creating familiar flavors that remind people of home while also experimenting with new seasonal flavors.

You’ll find customer favorites like Lemon, Classic Vanilla, and 7-Up, along with seasonal flavors such as Cinnamon Roll, Cookie Butter, Sweet Potato, and Cranberry Orange.

But Sweetness By the Pound is about so much more than cake to me. It represents healing, purpose, family, and faith. It’s a reminder that sometimes life takes us down an unexpected path and leads us to something we never knew we needed.

Every cake I bake is a little piece of that journey. And when someone comes back to my table and tells me how much they enjoyed something I made, it means more to me than they probably realize.

I’m incredibly grateful for every customer, every event organizer, every fellow vendor, and every person who has supported this little dream of mine. I’m especially excited to be returning and sharing my treats with the community again!
